Description
Positioned on higher ground
overlooking a rural village and river valley, the quinta has good access via a dirt road in good condition. It is a
very quiet and private spot, but not isolated, great for walking and enjoying nature. The large village of Santa
Catarina with local shops and a little market is only 3.5km away. The towns of São Brás and
Tavira are around 15 minutes away, and Faro Airport around 35minutes away.
The original quinta was built before 1951 and has 50cm thick natural stone
walls. It has recently been restored and extended in an ecologically friendly way, with much care taken in the choice
of natural materials and no toxic paints used. Ceilings and some floors are of wood, and there is slate stone on the
floor in the lounge, dining room and kitchen. There is a central gas-solar heating system with radiators and a large
‘Kachelofen’ fire place. There is cork insulation in the roof, and both wooden and aluminium doors and windows.
To the front of the house is a large, south facing covered terrace with arches
and built in benches. The front door opens into the cozy lounge with Kachelofen fire place which heats all the rooms
around it. There is an arch into the dining room, and from there another to the kitchen, which has a U shaped work
surface, cooker, stainless steel sink, built in cupboards and an old bread oven. A door leads
outside to a lovely, totally secluded BBQ area with built in, Moroccan style seating, a sand pit for the kids and a
beautiful view over the hillside..
There are 3 bedrooms, one with built in wardrobes and patio doors to a private
little terrace. There is a large, colourful bathroom with a handbuilt, Moroccan style shower corner, corner bath, WC,
bidet and double washbasin area with a large mirror and storage cupboards underneath.
Outdoor steps take you to a large, peaceful room with a wooden floor, roof and
windows, overlooking the valley. A few steps further down is a studio with a shower room, space for a kitchenette, and
patio doors to a small terrace and the extensive garden area with many trees.
There is a small, circular plunge pool in the garden for cooling off. Water
from own well, mains water recently laid to the house but not yet connected. 220V electricity, telephone, and septic
tank with reedbed soakaway.
A very special house which has to be seen to be appreciated.
